    =

    (x²-4)

    -------

    (x+2)

    =

    (x-2)(x+2)

    [(x/2)-(2/x) ] / [(1/2)+(1/x)]

for numerator the common denominator is 2x so

    [(x/2)(x/x)-(2/x(2/2)) ] / [(1/2)+(1/x)]

    (x^2/2x - 2x/^2) / ((1/2 + 1/x))

    ((x^2 - 2x)/2x) / ((1/2 + 1/x))

for the denominator the common denominator is 2x so

    ((x^2 - 2x)/2x) / (1/2(x/x) + 1/x(2/2))

    ((x^2 - 2x)/2x) / (x/2x + 2/2x)

    ((x^2 - 2x)/2x) / ((x + 2)/(2x))

    now take reciprocal and multiply

    ((x^2 - 2x)/2x) * 2x/(x + 2)

    (x^2 - 2x)/(x + 2)
