Why is it important for programmers to use high quality code?

The code is easier to extend

The code is easier to maintain

The code is simpler to upgrade

The code is simpler to troubleshoot

The code is less hardware specific for changes in execution platform

The code is easier to automatically optimize

I don't know what you're getting at or asking about, because there is no such thing as "high quality" code. All code is the same.

A "for-next loop" has the same quality as a variable assignment.

No offense, but did you actually read this question? The answer is the same for any occupation; you're basically asking for the definition of the phrase "high quality". Can you really not figure that out yourself?

Otherwise it ends up like WINDOWS - full of bugs and failures and frustrating people to the point where they swear.At worst it can cause an airplane to crash or other serious failure.
