How can you tell the difference between implantation bleeding and period bleeding?

There is a chance that i could be pregnant but also that i may not be. I have begun to bleed but it is a little before i normally would get my period but not so far off. I have had regular periods for such a long time now that this early bleeding and how light it is makes me think that there is a possibility that it is implantation bleeding. I am on birth control but have taken antibiotics so this is why i am not sure.

So do you think that it could be this or just my period and I'm worrying about it?

Should i take a test when it hit the 3 week mark just to be sure?

Update:

like i said its not a whole lot of blood at all actually but idk if I'm just worrying and its just a unusually light period. I know implantation bleeding is not super common but there is always that chance and i was curious.

Update 2:

I know the actual difference but what i want to know is there a way to tell the difference before a missed period or something? I know that sometimes people may confuse this for the start of their period due to it being light so other than just waiting it out is there a way to tell?

Not really. It is pretty much exactly like spotting that you might get a couple days before your period starts, so you just have to wait and see if it starts or not. If it doesn't, then you'll know.

Implantation bleeding is not common, or at least it's very easily missed. It is VERY light so it will only be noticeable on the toilet paper and not for more than a day. If it occurs it's about 4-6 days after ovulation.

It's not like a light period, if you happen to look at the TP when you wipe you may notice a tiny bit of pink, that's about it.

Most women wouldn't confuse it with the start of their period because it would be more than a week early...

Only Rifampin has been proven to lower the effectiveness of birth control, though some others MIGHT...if this isn't what you were taking it's probably not a problem.

If your doctor is willing you may be able to talk them into a blood test about a week before you're due...but most will not test that early due to the cost and the frequency of early miscarriages (chemical pregnancies)

Personally I'd wait to see if you miss your period, if you do then test. (This is what I did in March even though it was killing me for 2 weeks!)

Implantation bleeding is very rare, most women don't get it at all or don't notice it when it happens. Implantation bleeding will likely be a very very small amount. I would say maximum a penny size amount.

Spotting can happen in pregnancy (I had it with two of mine and no problems). Period like bleeding during pregnancy is not necesserily bad news but it will need to be checked out by a medical professional.

Bleeding near a period, in a period like way is most likely a period!

Implantation bleeding is when the fertilized egg attaches itself to in the inside of your uterine wall. I don't know why it bleeds, but its not uncommon. Period bleeding is when the uterine wall, the endometrium, sheds. That's why sometimes it comes out in clots.

implantation bleeding is more like spotting, and does not always occur.
