trouble with pictures on the computer?

on my windows xp desktop I have several subfolders of pictures within the "my pictures" folder. When I open my pictures I see those folders and it has sample pictures of what is in the folder displayed on the folder icon. If I look at the properties for the folders it shows that there are so many files within that folder and shows the megabytes too. The problem is when I open the folder, there are no pictures. I have tried to view them as a slide show, share them with my laptop, same problem...no pictures! The slide show thing says something like no files to preview or something like that. The pictures that are saved in "my pictures" that are not in a subfolder are fine. I can preview them, edit them, whatever. I don't know if I have a virus or what? everything else seems to be fine. Any suggestions as to how I can get my pictures and/or what the problem is? Thanks in advance!

use the "Search" feature of windows. Go to C:\ in explorer. In the top right there is a search window, type in *.jpg. It should find all pictures on the hard drive.

Might be a virus or after effects. Update your antivirus and scan thoroughly.

To manually restore the hidden files follow the instructions below :

Open command prompt ---> Click Start ---> Run ---> cmd

This will show C:\Documents and Settings\Username>

Now type this My Documents\My Pictures\Folder

    Replace the Folder with yours

    Type this attrib -r -s -h *.* /d /s
