my jade plant is withering :( please help!!!?

my jade plant is withering. the leaves are still plump and green but the base of the stems where they meet the soil is weak and bending. limp and hanging over the edge. the widest of the stems is probably 3/4 of an inch and is limp. one of the other base stems fell off at the soil level from the lack of the stem to support the leaves and plant above it. please help! it all started when i tried to propagate one of the small shoots near the base of the stem. cut it off, then all of a sudden, within 3 days, that side of the plant went limp. week later the other side fell over as well

please help, the plant is really old and i don't want it to die

I sounds like you over watered it and its rotting off at the soil. That or it got infected and is rotting off but I'm leaning towards over watering.

I suggest you get a cactus mix soil and stick all sealed off cuttings (cuttings that have the cut end dry for a day or so) and the plant that still has roots into that. Be sure to gently remove as much as the old soil as possible. Re-plant in a pot that is only slightly larger than the root mass.

It may revive and at-least your cuttings will grow to replace it.

Sounds like a water issue. Jade plants do not need very much water to live. To save it you probably do need to re-pot it in new soil and remove as much of the old soil as possible because it may be contaminated with a fungus. Be gentle on the roots you want to save them for your rejuvenated jade! Be easy on the water and maybe try a few more cuttings just in case.

    Good luck!

I would guess too much water. The stems shrivel up and the plant eventually dies. Take some healthy stem off and pot it in some succulent potting mix and you may be able to grow a new plant from the old. Most house plants don't need much watering in winter, so cut back the watering if you are watering regularly. Just water when it needs it.

Bad news; root rot, mother plant will be a gonner soon.

Good news; Jades are super easy to propogate, stems/branches, even a single leaf will root...place in moist soil, ignore, new leaf growth = roots.
