Skyrim: How do you exactly have different experiences with different characters?
I might be being a bit noobish in asking (got game for xmas) but I don't see how creating more than one character will result in much of a difference in the experience of the game. Surely all together you still do the same quests and everything anyway... or is there something I'm missing out?
Can anybody give a detailed explanation of why I should consider doing another character other than my current imperial race one.

Its true a lot of the quests, especially the main quest, you'll likely have to resolve in more or less the same way, but there are many choices to be made that result in somewhat different playthroughs. Imperial or Stormcloak for example is a choice which changes up which towns get raided, which Jarls get booted, which important characters keep/lose their heads. You also choose which factions to join and which to poop on... so if on your first playthrough you joined the dark brotherhood and helped them out, why not slaughter them all this time and see how that works out? Why not become a vampire or a werewolf and terrorize a specific region where you don't mind running up such a huge bounty that guards attack you on sight?
If your previous character was an armored fighter, why not try pure magic, and see how that plays out? If in the last game you chose to serve the Daedra, why not try screwing them over this time? The game is pretty much what you make of it though, if you can't imagine getting any fun out of a second playthrough, you probably wont.

Your actions during the game will determine how various characters interact with u. For the most blatant example, if u join Stormcloaks, u will not be given any of the Imperial quests and members of the Imperials in-game faction will be hostile to u. Had u not joined the Stormcloaks, those hostile characters would have interacted with u differently and maybe even offered quests to u.
They have a new quest system called "Radiant AI" which allows a lot more variables in the game. This allows characters to experience a different game experience each time.
I guess u could sort of relate it to those "choose your adventure" type books where u make a choice, then turn to the corresponding page. U can go through the book several times with variances in the storyline.

Being a different character does not change your overall experience. It's just that for whatever sort of skills you want to progress in, whether you want to be a Warrior, a Mage, or a Thief/Assassin. Maybe you want to be a balanced mix of all of them.
Some quests involve Guilds that have stories of their own almost as epic as the main Dragonborn story, and they all provide their own unique rewards that benefit you based on your playstyle. Like, if you want to be a pure Thief, then play as a Khajiit (http://elderscrolls.wikia.com/wiki/Khajiit_(Skyrim... and go to Riften where the Thief's Guild is. You may even get equipment that help you sneak better or help you do more damage with backstab attacks (aka, sneak attacks from behind a person).
Of course, guild quests aren't the only ones you will experience. You will get quests almost everywhere you go, be it from a homeless person, a tavern, a cave, or even just sleeping in your own bed. Every choice you make decides how you will experience the game and what quests you will receive.
Now, I will conclude the last paragraph with this. I strongly suggest that if you want to be a certain kind of character, here is what i recommend:
Warrior: Orc
Mage: Breton/Altmer
Thief: Khajiit
Uuse "The Elder Scrolls Wiki" if you need more info on both the classes and characters. of course, it is all up to you. You are not limited to being only a warrior, mage, or thief. You can be a Thif with awesome Restoration skill, or an Orc with good illustion skills. My only reasonfor picking specific races was so you can get the extra skill boost in every one of those classes.

I have three characters that I play in different ways.
Nord - He's my warrior. Heavy Armor, 1 hand and 2 hand specialist, He chops his way through everything like a lawn mower. I've done the Main Quest, Stormcloaks, and Companions quest lines with him.
Breton - Mage. I use different stratagies with this guy then I do the Nord. I need to run and gun more, roast them and keep my distance. Summon a zombie or an Atronach as my meat shield so I can keep pounding away. I've done the Mages College and Imperial quest line with him.
Khajiit - Theif/Assassin. My sneaky little bastard. He spends 90% of his time in a dungeon in sneak mode. His backstab kills most things in 1 shot before they even know he's there and he can snipe with a bow and get three arrows in something before they even know where he's at. Dark Brotherhood and Theives guild with this guy.

each race has its own pros and cons and this can change how npcs view you. for example my character is a Khajiit *the cat race* in the game Khajiit's are known fro being thief's, untrustworthy, and travelers. so when ever i go to a town *even when i'm the thane* the guards are always on edge and when ever i walk *not sneak* by them or talk to them they rarely are nice to me and most of the time when they talk to me they call me a thief. also it is harder to join the storm cloaks because im not a nord and there for had to prove myself more than if i where a nord. where as when my bf plays he is either a nord or imperial race and the guards are not as rude and it was a lot easier for him to become a storm cloak. so the race you pick does affect who trusts you and who will accept you easier. however also just the choices you make as each character gives you a different story line. just deciding to be imperial instead of storm cloak will give you a very different story. as will as who you decide to fallow in the very beginning. one you get black smith the other gives you the wood cutters house. so you can make a character in each race and you can get 10 different story's just based on what your choices are in the game.

Well you create different character builds, and some quests you might not want to do because it would be 'bad' like murder or thievery. so you stick to non-crime related quests. So then next time you play you could create a criminal type that does whatever to make some money.

Different characters are a different experience because you play with a different skill set. Gameplay plays differently for a mage than for a warrior than for an assassin and so on.
