how would you date someone whose shy? Everytime you try to talk to them or try to start some connection and make them feel comfortable around you they always turn away from you.

Theres going to be things that they're not shy talking about. Just find out things that interest them.
Also they will grow out of shyness the more they talk to you so keep talking and being around that person and they'll get used to it. Im sure they're not shy all the time or deep inside they just dont have many things in common with a lot of people. Once they open up you'll be surprised :)

Expose some of your flaws, as they'll likely be trying to hide theirs, being honest, yet tactful and show confidence.
I'm a shy person and I look up confident but not arrogant, kind people.
Show that you care about them. They'll look uninterested but it's likely just due to nervousness.
