Could these be Side Affects......?

So we took our 9 year old lab to the vet about his violent shaking and they said he was probably shaking due to him being in pain. So they put him on medication and it has done wonders, He used to shake everyday and he has only shaken once. He has gained more weight which is great. He has been on it since last friday. The medication is Deramaxx. But he is drooling alot more then usual. Could this be a side effect should I be worried?

Update:

Also he has been scratching his face more then usual but not to the point of any hair loss. He likes to rub his head often on things.

Restlessness is one of the side effects of Deramaxx, along with vomiting, change in stools (diarrhea or change in color), decreased appetite, and increased water intake and urination.

If any animal exhibits ANY side effects to ANY medication, that medication should be STOPPED until you can seek veterinary assistance. It does not take long for a dog (or cat) to exhibit side effects to any medication. It only takes a short time for the medication to pass through the GI tract into the blood stream (a matter of 30 minutes up to 4 hours in most cases).

Did your Vet test your dog for hypothyroidism or Cushings? Did your Vet just treat the symptoms with Derramaxx and didn't try to get to the root of the problem (the shaking, etc.)?

The shaking and weight gain, along with the itchy face are all symptoms of Cushings. Labs are prone to Cushings disease.

As far as meds, my dogs have been on Deramaxx for short periods of time. Deramaxx is an Nsaid, you need to be careful with them. Particularly watch for dark (black), tarry stools, that would indicate there are liver problems caused by the meds. Get your dog to the Vet immediately if you see dark stools.

I haven't heard of drooling associated with Deramaxx, but it can be a symptom of Cushings syndrome.

ask vet what side effects and tell what dog is doing
