Best dog collars for long haired dogs and dogs with skin folds?

I have two dogs that have problems with finding collars that work for them. Not looking for anything special, I just need a collar that won't irritate their skin. One dog has a problem with his long hair and the other has skin folds around her neck making it difficult to get a good collar on her.

My long haired dog is my Bentley, he is a heeler/retriever mix. The size of a heeler but he has a longer curly coat that when wearing a flat buckled collar it makes his hair curl around the collar. Let alone it causes him to have a very clear matted spot when the collar comes off where it was sitting.

My other dog is my Mia. She is a bloodhound with quite a few rolls of skin on her neck. It's extremely hard to find a collar for her. I had her on a slip collar because of her extra skin on her neck I can't get a very good fit on her and she easily gets frightened by people and has pulled and backed out of several collars except the slip collar. But.... when it's left on her which is needs to be to have her city ID tags on it makes her loose hair under the collar. I'm not sure what to do with her, I can't and won't do a metal choke chain.

I was thinking about a rolled leather collar but I quickly remembered that my dogs love to swim so I don't think a leather dog collar will withstand that for long. I was thinking about using this collar but not sure if it would work with Mia's problems or not. http://www.bigdogboutique.com/productcart/pc/Round...

Too big of a crate? how to make it more comfortable?

I'm a bit stuck on what to do with my 7 month old heeler/retriever mix puppy. Bentley is a very active pup but obviously doesn't enjoy sleeping in his crate. He can't be trusted outside of it while I sleep. He has a tendency to chew on things when he gets bored so crating is a must. I crate all my dogs except my 11 year old Labrador cookie who has her own bed in my room. My bloodhound LOVES sleeping in her crate with no problem walking into it on her own. Bentley however HATES his crate.

He's put in his crate when I go to school on Tuesdays and Thursdays for 4 hours at most. As he can't be trusted alone since he likes to chew on objects.

He's in a fairly large crate, and I'm wondering if that has something to do with it. Bentley is in a 48" dog crate. It's a wired crate that has a bed. He never really seems to use the space entirely he usually curls up in the back of the crate or to the front of it.

Bentley's fairly a medium sized dog roughly 55 pounds and 7 months old. It's unlikely he will grow any bigger other than fill in his body.

Do you think Bentley's crate is just a bit big? I don't have a lot of room in my room for his crate now and If I can downsize a bit it would help but I don't want to make it smaller for him that it's uncomfortable. And how can I make it more comfortable for him to be in there? So he's more willing to enter it? Although I love positive reinforcement I don't want to entirely rely on treats to get him to go in. I've put a toy in there but he still doesn't go in.

I'll add a picture just so you get a visual on him in his crate.

  • Good sturdy dog crate?

I'm looking for a very sturdy dog crate. I have a puppy who is 5 months old abs weighs 43 pounds, I adopted him 3 months ago so he's a mix breed and do not know how much he's going to be. He is currently in a 42" crate he fits in it well but I just want to be prepared he's pretty long when he's stretched out so I'm looking for a 48" crate. I have a bloodhound in a 48" top paw crate and I love the thickness of the wires in her crate but apparently top paw has changed design that now sucks. Bentley tends to lean on the side of his crate so I need one with strong wire that won't easily bend. So if anyone has any suggestions I would greatly appreciate it.

  • Would this be an good food for a growing puppy?

So a bit ago I had asked a question about food for my puppy. Well I narrowed down on a brand and that's Natures Variety. They do have a puppy food but it has grain and Bentley is showing signs of allergies to grain just like my other hound. I really like their raw diet but don't really have the room to store it. So I looked at their kibble with raw, http://www.petco.com/product/122557/Natures-Variet... I like the ingredients in it and wish to feed this to my pup, but I'm not sure if it would be good for him. Help him grow up with strong bones, muscles and be over-all a healthy adult dog. I already contacted the company but got no response.

  • How much play fighting is too much?

So we recently adopted a 3 month old lab/hound mix. He was fine at first, very calm and submissive but now he's a little too ruff with the others. I have two more dogs a 11 year old female Labrador with severe cancer and arthritis. So she's not really up to being jumped on or her ears chewed on. But Mia who is my 6 years old is all for play. Mia loves to play fight, she is never too ruff only with the occasional tripping over him. I can tell she is not fighting with him as she is always letting him win, she will get down on her belly and roll over on her back and continue to play. He's actually more ruff with her than she is with him. She will stop if I stay stop. He won't. She walks away fine, he continues it on. It seems she tries to correct him for being too ruff but he doesn't get it. She's too soft when it comes to correcting him. We are hopefully going to get him started with a trainer next month. But what can I do to help this situation? I haven't had two dogs who like to play like this.

  • Good Puppy food brand?

I recently adopted a puppy about 3 weeks. The rescue said his mother was a cattle/hound mix. But his father is un-known. So I'm not entirely sure on what size he is going to be in the end. And I can tell he's getting bigger day by day. He's currently on Kirkland's (costco brand) puppy dog food as that what's he was used to. But I do want to change it.

It's been almost 6 years since I have had a puppy so I'm not up to date on the good puppy foods now. I do know of some brands I have tried for my older dogs and haven't had great results. They are Blue buffalo

    Wellness

    Authority

    Innova

But I'm not sure what now to feed a pup. He's 4 months old. I DON'T want to feed him those three brands as I have used them in the past and don't like the results.

I'm looking for a food that has Excellent ingredients,no by-products, no corn, wheat or soy so basically it needs to be grain free since my hounds have ear infections from grain. And that is for a puppy.

Just for a reference, here is what little Bentley looks like. If you have some guesses on what breeds he looks like please share :) http://i803.photobucket.com/albums/yy312/bloodhoun...

  • How much to feed a pup?

It's been five years since I've had a little pup in the house. And yesterday petco was having an adoption day with a dog rescue. I saw this little boy and fell in love. His name is Bentley. They said his mom was a heeler/hound mix. Don't know about his father. I would say he's more hound and lab mix. As his body is identical to my bloodhound just a different head. So anyways I'm a bit rusty on puppy diet. He's on Kirkland puppy food as that's what his fosters fed him. But I'm not sure on how much to feed him. I'm afraid we fed him too much yesterday afternoon. But he scarfed down food like he was starving. I don't know his weight which makes it difficult. He was checked by a vet last week from his foster parents but I never got his weight.

Here just a picture of him size wise. He is quiet small but heavy.

  • Good reliable dog life jackets?

I have a 10 year old lab who absolutely loves to fetch sticks in our local pond area. Cookie has started to get bad arthritis and also suffers from cancer so she tires a bit more than other Labradors. She is a very short and heavy girl. She weighs around 75 pounds. I want to buy her a life jacket so she can keep doing what she loves to do but not have all that work on her joints so she stays a float easier. I'm wondering if anyone knew of any good brands of life jackets that aren't too expensive (over $70) and that would hold up her weight but for her size. I'll post a picture of her so you can get a look at her size. And an estimate on size I should get would be great. Over all her stomach size is around 31-33"

  • Best digital camera with Manual mode?

I'm looking for a camera that is digital and has a manual mode meaning you can Adjust the Aperture, ISO and shutter speed. I don't want to spend an arm and a leg as I'm a student and don't have the money for the big DSLR cameras. Does anyone know of any good cameras that will allow this?

  • What Flavor Of CGD Does your crested gecko like best?

I have a 10 month old Crested Gecko who weighs around 6-7 grams. He came to me when he was 4 grams and 8 months old. So I have had him for 2 months now and he seems to be doing great, he is well adjusted to his habitat. But feeding is a problem for him. He does eat his food but only when it's right in his face. He doesn't seem to go out and find it when it's during the night. I'm not sure if he is still getting used to his new home but He doesn't seem like the flavor too much. He loves crickets which I have fed him small crickets and he loves those but I don't want him to get too attached to the crickets and not accept the CGD anymore. So My question which flavor of CGD does your crestie like best? He's currently on Original (strawberry/banana).

  • 5-15 Fish tank Filter not working?

I have a betta who lives in a 10 gallon tank. I have a 5-15 Aqua-Tech power filter in my tank. And early this morning our power went out and of course It came back on sooner or later and everything started up fine except my filter. My filter plugged into a power strip that is surge protected. And I tried everything to get it back on. I can't manually turn the propeller as I can't access it. You can hear a buzzing noise it sound's like it's on but it's not. I left it on when I left to work hoping that it needed a few mins to get up. I left some water in the filter. But when I came home the water in the filter was really hot and the filter was hot it self where the motor is located. So my question, How do I fix it? or should I buy a new one? and what one to buy?

  • Anything To give a recovering Betta?

I have a betta fish Johnny, who is recovering from fin rot. I have read that vitamins were the best and nutrients were needed. I'm not exactly sure on what form this is in. Is vitamins in food? Or is there something else to help him boost his immune system. I have tried blood-worms, He won't eat them, he quickly spits them out when he takes a bite.

  • What Can you do for Cysts on a dog?

My 9 year old lab Duke, Has developed two cysts now. He has been to the vet, she thinks they are Follicular cysts. When he went he had only one, now it's two. The cysts are hard, they are scab like dark colored. They do at times "peel" off so you see his skin. They have developed on his side. What I'm wondering is there anything I can do for them? Any Ointment? Surgery? Our vet didn't go much into detail in how to fix them or just leave them.

  • Betta Fin Rot Problem!?

So I Have a Male betta, who is in a 10 gal tank with two Mystery snails. He has had no problems until now, I have been at the hospital for about a week and a half, I had my appendix burst on me (just my luck ha) I haven't been able to change his tank nor been able to check up on him for the period of time until last night which wasn't much fun. I cleaned out his tank and noticed his torn fins. I feel so terrible now. I washed everything, of course not with soap. I have purchased some medication for fin rot and I have searched that I have to take out my carbon filter? Wouldn't that put more bacteria in the tank? I have only 2-3 days left on the medication. He looks great, swimming around actively but I don't want him to get an infection. If you could help me out I would greatly appreciate it.

    Thanks,

  • Could these be Side Affects......?

So we took our 9 year old lab to the vet about his violent shaking and they said he was probably shaking due to him being in pain. So they put him on medication and it has done wonders, He used to shake everyday and he has only shaken once. He has gained more weight which is great. He has been on it since last friday. The medication is Deramaxx. But he is drooling alot more then usual. Could this be a side effect should I be worried?
