How can I get into the acting business at 13?
I am 13 and I would like to start getting into acting professionally. But the problem is, I live in Virginia, and from what I've heard, you have to live in New York or LA to get anywhere in acting. I have no option of moving anywhere else, so I would have to try to get into acting here. I am currently in theater in my school, and I have been in multiple plays. I know that I could try to get into a community theater nearby, but is it a lost cause trying to get into acting here? Currently, I would take any job, but I would like to slowly get into jobs that I could get paid from in the coming years. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Of the thousands of Actors I have worked with over the years I have also been lucky enough to work with Chris Hemsworth (more commonly known as "Thor"), Drew Weston (who understudied the male lead in Australia's production of "Mary Poppins") and Delta Goodrem. None of these names waited until they were 18 to get started in Acting, I know 'cause I worked with them.
My tips are as follows:
Good acting is attributed to (but not limited to):
. Good listening
. Good reacting
. Good reading
. Good relating
. Good line learning technique
. Good control/use of your mind, body and expressions
. Good projection
. Good direction and good with taking direction
. Good attitude
. Good assertiveness
. Good health and fitness
. Good imagination
. Good improvisation
. Good self esteem and self worth (not arrogant)
. Good drive and commitment
. Good eye and body language
. Good judgment
. Good risk taking (feeling the fear and doing it anyway)
. Good communication, interpersonal and networking skills.
If you want the big breaks then you've got to go after them, HARD.
Don't waver, don't look back, don't give up, don't say no, keep climbing onto bigger and better things, be damn good at what you do.
Even then there's no guarantee but you're giving yourself the best chance that you can.
All the best :)

Who ever told you that you have to live in New York or LA to act professionally does not know the definition of "professional." If you act "professionally," you are being payed to act. I am sure there are local theaters in Virginia that pay their actors, including the children and teens. I live thousands of miles away from New York AND Las Angeles, and there are still professional theaters where I live! And just because you can't go to New York or LA now doesn't mean you can't when you get older. Getting experience now is definitely not a lost cause, and it will be an advantage when you're older and ARE in New York or LA.
Make sure you are trained. Google "Acting Schools in Virginia (Or Your City)" to find a good school. Starting training at 13 is a great, considering that many actors don't start until their late twenties. Right now, instead of worrying about being professional and getting paid, just focus on building up your resume. The more you have when you go off to one of those cities, the better. Good Luck!
EDIT, if you are interested in acting in LA, which would be on camera for film or TV, you will need an agent, but don't worry about that now. You should probably get at least one year, maybe two beofre you start worrying about auditioning for an agent. When that time comes, I'm sure your acting coach will help you and guide you through it.
