I'll explain this very slowly.
You should (hopefully) know how to count.
If you are at 1 on a number line. (1 2 3 4 5 6...)
↑ you are here
And you need to add 1 more. You would move one space on the number line to the positive end.
(1 2 3 4 5 6...)
»»» positive numbers get larger when you move more to the right.
And if you move 1 space from the 1 you would land on 2.
(1 2 3 4 5 6...)
*»˝
Starting on the 1 and moving 1 space forward on the number line leaves you on 2. Hence 1+1=2

and by the way @ Wile you didn't prove anything since you got 2=1 that proves that a doesn't equal b and therefore it is an invalid problem stop trying to be a smart butt and confuse little children into thinking that they are smart/can prove adults wrong

1 + 1 = 3
Proof:
Given: a = b
a² = ab.........................(Multiply both sides by a)
a² - b² = ab - b...............(Subtract b² from both sides)
(a + b)(a - b) = b(a - b)....(Factor both sides)
a + b = b.......................(Divide both sides by a - b)
b + b = b.......................(Sub b for a since it is given that a = b)
2b = b...........................(Combine like terms)
2 = 1.............................(Divide both sides by b)
Since 2 = 1, they are interchangeable, so
1 + 1 = 2 + 1 = 3
