How to get inspiration to write stories?

I love writing stories for personal enjoyment, but I can't think of any ideas. I like to write adventure/romance/fantasy stories, but I'm having a difficult time coming up with something original and not too far fetched. I have a few old ideas, but looking back, they seem to outrageous and difficult to tie together. They also seem cliche. Should I just write through these old ideas and hope for new ideas as I write? Do you have any idea of how to get inspiration?

Maybe if you try to take these ideas and write quickly, no more than 20 or 30 minutes on each, you'll get a sense on whether it's worth continuing. You might end up saying the heck with it, or might realize that there is potential there once you get going.

Also keep your eyes and ears open for interesting things that happen around you. This story http://www.wattpad.com/2840312-last-pod-out-of-sol... began as just something I heard happen to some teenagers at an amusement park. After putting down a few paragraphs, I liked it enough to stretch it into 9 pages.

Think of stories that you enjoy, and take elements from that. Not too specific, just some general circumstances and places.

Find a unique beginning and place. A coal mining factory, a cloud city, an abandoned city. Find things that are not commonly used or seen in literature and use that to your advantage.

"There is nothing new under the sun." That is why, to make an original story, you must dig into specifics and how those tie together.

I also LOVE writing fantasy/scifi/adventure, but I usually get my inspiration from my dreams. As far fetched as it sounds, I've written so many stories, and two non published books from a few dreams. Dreams are the most original thoughts and ideas. Try it, keep a journal next to your bed, and as soon as you wake up, write down what you dream. Even if it doesn't make sense.

I am not a writer nor do I like to write but my suggestion would be to ask family members/friends what kind of stories they like and maybe see if they would like to give you an idea so that you could write a short story for them to read and if they like the story you could expand on the idea to make it longer. Like I said I'm not to much of a writer but I hope this helps you for a good writing career if you wish to go there.

If your old ideas are not too crazy, I say use them as a starting point for new ideas. Try to find general trends you like in stories you read, and add them to your own stories. For example, if you like major twists, incorporate that. Good luck! I'm glad ro hear of someone doing something so creative and productive!
