Western Digital Hard drive cannot initialize disk?

I/O device error unallocated and cannot initialized disk. I've tried to change the drive letter but it isn't an option. I have downloaded something that renewed all my drives and I did get a pop up saying the external hard drive was being installed but when I looked on "My Computer" nothing popped up. The hard drive shows but it's unallocated with 197######MB, it's a 2 TB.

P.S. - I had my hard drive connected when I did a computer restart.

P.S.S. - I had another hard drive that was connected when my computer froze and instead of waiting I shut down the power and it too is broken. It's a 1TB and it does NOT show up at all, but the 2TB is showing "Unallocated" so I know it's connected.

Update:

Also, I didn't have them both connected at the same time. Soon as my portalable hard drive went out I bought the 2TB. The 2TB lasted for about 2 months than went out.

Also all drives have been updated and I still have this problem.

It sounds like there might have been some type of a power-surge within your machine. Maybe the USB ports on the Computer are the culprit. Either way, there is a chance that a data recovery software might be able to restore some of your data. I would recommend trying to plug your devices into another machine and running a data recovery software on them. If the software recovery fails, then you are definitely going to have some internal issues.

If that is the case, you might need to do some troubleshooting yourself. I would not recommend doing this on your own without the proper equipment or the know-how as you might damage something even more. In fact, I would recommend that you contact a Data Recovery Specialist to see if they can get this data back for you. One company that I have personal experience with is eProvided Data Recovery. These guy's have over 10 years of experience in recovering data and should definitely be able to help you out. Here is their website: http://www.eprovided.com/d1/hard-drive-recovery.ht...

Give them a call and see what they say about all of this.

    good luck.

they both need repartitioning and then formatting.

you should avoid having more than one external hard drive

connected at same time. especially if you have NOT confirmed that

the drives are COMPATIBLE with the operating system.

when the Drives are connected they may get the other ones

driver and not their own. Older drives not made for the

operating system that you have might easily have some bad

programming in them. Things like wanting to be only

connected to the same usb socket originally used to install

them and never to a different one.

check and update both the drivers for the drives.

making certain that they are compatible with your current operating system.
