Do women make better managers than men?

I was having a conversation with a few of my friends the other day (guys AND girls) and the aforementioned question came up. Being a guy, I personally don't want to judge a manager's performance solely because of their gender & my only thought on this subject would be that women DO have to put in 150% efforts to get to where a man would reach with 100% efforts. But this also means that the "individual" has that talent and in fact has exceeded expectations, which shouldn't really be shadowed by her "gender" ....

I would love opinions from everyone, as long as they are (1) Mature, (2) Logical & (3) Devoid of profanity.

Nah, certain individuals make better managers than others. Gender is not a factor.

Yeah, you know the signs they have in some offices - "Do you want to speak to the man in charge, or the woman who knows what's going on?"

Sums it up well, really... I mean honestly, most men I know can't even manage their children and the household when their wife is away :)

No, but it is something that many woman can do well. At least in middle management. Upper level and executive level management sees a lot of women fall out of the competition. It is just like most things in life, the higher the level you play at the less women you will see that are competitive (you can blame that on whatever makes you feel good).

And, since there aren't many women who can do the heavy labor, the dirty and dangerous jobs, etc, it is at least something that they can do that is useful. Unlike many jobs where women need to have the standards lowered to have any women at all "qualified" (police, firemen, construction, etc etc).

And, you are completely wrong on women having to work harder to get the same to the same point as a man. They may have a harder time than men (simply because they aren't as effective), but they are given A LOT more preference than men are because they are treated as a minority. That is the whole point of Affirmative Actions/EEO/etc...to lower the standards for some, so you can give them more opportunities (you discriminate IN THEIR FAVOR because they can't get their on their own).
