  • Do women make better managers than men?

    I was having a conversation with a few of my friends the other day (guys AND girls) and the aforementioned question came up. Being a guy, I personally don't want to judge a manager's performance solely because of their gender & my only thought on this subject would be that women DO have to put in 150% efforts to get to where a man would reach with 100% efforts. But this also means that the "individual" has that talent and in fact has exceeded expectations, which shouldn't really be shadowed by her "gender" ....

    I would love opinions from everyone, as long as they are (1) Mature, (2) Logical & (3) Devoid of profanity.

  • Why isn't there a low against "immorality" in India ?

    I fail to understand how a female who is forced to sell her body against her wishes is illegal and she can be put behind bars for MONTHS, yet if a female does the same thing despite being in a committed relationship for years, the law has nothing to say about that. Why isn't there a low against "immorality" ?? If there is one, kindly enlighten me on it !!!!

  • Horrendous Experience courtesy Shoppers Stop !!?

    I went to Shoppers Stop for pre-Diwali shopping with my sis and Gf. Until the payment everything went fine. However, while leaving the premises after paying for the clothes the gate starts beeping when my sister and Gf pass through it. So we show them the bills and they let my Gf go. However my sister had an extra t-shirt in her handbag (which she had got as a gift & NOT purchased that day) which the security guys demanded a receipt of. Now as it was purchased from a different company from a different place altogether, we obviously couldn't produce a bill, so this makes the security staff doubt us for shop lifting.

    So they take us to their manager who listens to the explanation and apparently believes the security guy. When we were asked to explain, we told the manager that we agree that we don't have a bill for the t-shirt, but we have a genuine reason for the same & in any case the gate had beeped even when my Gf was passing through; but according to the manager this wasn’t enough of a reason. Hence, he calls a counter girl who was in charge of that particular brand. Meanwhile my sis, my Gf & I are waiting surrounded by these security guys like we are terrorists or dacoits.

    After 5-10mins the counter girl comes in and when asked if she gave the t-shirt to us to try on, she replies that she has.

    Till this point we 3 were patient as we thought it was a mistake with the security guys, however this was the limit. 1st we hadn’t talked to the counter girl AT ALL let alone taking products from her. Secondly when my sister and I asked her the same Q (i.e.:- if she gave the t-shirt to us to try on?) the girl was obviously nervous and replied WITHOUT any eye contact, which was the 2nd thing that made me suspicious. Then the girl also had a bar-code which she said belonged to the t-shirt which we apparently left in the dressing room (and even if we HAD hypothetically shoplifted the t-shirt, why would we leave the barcode in such an obvious place?),so the manager began checking something on his computer, I know a little about how these systems work, hence I tried looking at what he was doing, but the security guy stopped me very rudely (as though they got full proof that I’m a shop-lifter) ,that was the 3rd thing that made me doubt ,because they didn’t let me check what the manager was doing with the bar-code, which in my opinion meant that he could have changed the data to frame us for something we didn’t do & whilst I was thinking this 4th thing that hit me was that most counter girls would be close by and that there wasn’t much rush at that part of the Mall as it was a weekday afternoon, yet the girl took 5-10mins to arrive, despite being called for, in such a serious matter; which meant that she was thoroughly briefed on what to say & what not to say by the time she reached the manager’s cabin.

    By now (seeing that all the cards were in their hands) the manager was behaving very rudely with my sister, who was almost in tears & also threatened to call the cops. My Gf who is normally a very patient and non-violent person got really irate and asked the manager to call the Police as we were the victims here, I agreed to my Gf as enough was enough, but my sister stopped us as we used to shop here often and also because she was VERY humiliated about all of this, which is very obvious. The manager gives us “one last chance” to pay for the t-shirt before he calls the cops, so my sister who had tears in her eyes & agreed to pay.

    Despite all this, when I asked the manager for his name, he REFUSED. Then on the way to the payment counter I asked the security guy who was “escorting” us about the manager’s name and he rudely declined, so I asked him his own name and he said “none of your business”. So we paid (for something we didn’t buy nor want) and were leaving when I said something to my Gf about the entire incident and if we should complain , the security guy overheard me and calls me a “shameless robber”, so I completely lose my mind and confront him verbally to which he calls for back up who repeat the same thing that “I shoplifted and then created a commotion like I’m innocent” I got extremely angry and would have taken the law in my own hands had it not been for my sister & Gf who both had tears in their eyes by now, due to the utter humiliation by the staff of Shoppers Stop.

    {PS: - I am in a position to get a receipt from my sister’s friend for the t-shirt so we can prove the purchase of the t-shirt, however after the behavior of the staff till now, I don’t think they would believe us in any case.}

    A humble plea to whoever takes the time and reads this utterly shocking experience of mine to please put yourself in my place and advise me of what should be done next to prove my innocence, keeping in mind that the dignity of my sis and my Gf should be intact. As I can’t stop thinking about this and I really do NOT want to take law in my own hands as I respect the law VERY much.

    Thanks in advance.
