Which would cost more to the US, Iran blocking the path to ship oil or a 20 year war?

The USA gets most of it's oil from Canada. I think only something like 10% of US Oil comes from the Arab states. So, the US could be totally cut of from Arab oil, and still do quite well, although there would be panic (and high prices) over the perception of no oil coming in. The reality is quite different.

The US gets 0 drops of oil from Iran, but it's not about money that would cause us to stop them if they block the strait, part of it is money but it's also them screwing with our allies and the ethos of the US navy is that if any amount of trade or anything on the seas is being restricted without their consent then they will stop that restriction.

I can't price the war but I can tell you that gasoline would sell for north of $10 a gallon within days of an effective blockade of the Strait of Hormuz. A protracted blockage would cause immediate, severe gas rationing, food shortages, power blackouts and most likely riots in every major city around the world. Manufacturing would come to an absolute halt. World wide economies would contract at a frightening rate. All the banks would collapse.

Blocking the path of oil only because there would never be a 20 year war with them. We would destroy them way before that. They're No match for us.
