I have a remote start thing on my car. Sometimes it starts by itself for no reason. Any ideas why?
Its a 1997 VW Jetta. Thanks for any help.

The most obvious reason is you're accidentally hitting the button while the fob is your pocket.Other than that, there's something in the area that's using the same frequency as your remote.

I would start by checking the batteries in the key fob first...I have seen them do that before. If not I would go and find a young priest and an old priest.

Remote starters work off a signal emmitted from the key fob. It may be possible another key fob from a neighbor is close to your remote but unlikely. You may need to go to a VW dealer to have the remote reprogrammed.
