Is there such a thing as a black based Appaloosa with white spots?

Update:

Perhaps I aught to tell that I wanted to know if there is such a thing as a black based Appaloosa with a white snowcap.

Update 2:

donald, I meant to say snowcap with blanket, what I (unintentionally) wrote was something like the leopard Appaloosa with the white markings on black.

The snowflake pattern. It's not common. Pictures are kind of difficult to find...

ETA: I'll edit in a second, andl try to explain. :x And find more pictures.

ETA2: Do you mean a snowcap pattern to be a blanket with an absence of spots? If that's the case, yes.

The amount of spotting depends on whether the horses bred are homozygous or heterozygous for the leopard complex gene. Horses that are homozygous will display the loud, few-spot patterns.

The snowflake pattern can manifest for a few different reasons but I'm not sure that it is an actual appaloosa, though I believed loads of folks will call it "snowflake appaloosa".

A few patterns that will give a black horse white spots (though not like an inverted leopard appaloosa):

    Rabicano

    Manchado

    Birdcatcher

Chubari (mostly in grays I think?)

I'm not sure what the black horse with white spots I posted is. It was listed as a snowflake appaloosa, but ehh... It almost looked photoshopped. Probably birdcatcher though.

I do know that the snow cap and the few spot colors do have some genetic problems, I cant find the article right now. and I know if you keep breeding colored apps. that you will eventually get the delution factor. That is when you see those kind of greyed out non descript faded colors.

There was a foal born on my trainer's proberty that was black with white spots. I will have to search through photos to find one of him for you. Unfortunately when he hit two he started turning gray and was a very strange purple roan for a time, we never got to find out what color he was going to end up as, he broke his leg and had to be put down.

I've never seen a black based App with white spots - black based with white blankets and black spots, sure, but not black with white spots.

There is a marking pattern, not breed specific, that is white spots on a dark background - here's a link to a bay with white

    http://www.google.com/imgres?q=birdcatcher+spots&h...

Here's one on a black background:

    http://www.google.com/imgres?q=reverse+leopard+app...

These are called birdcatcher spots, named after an early thoroughbred racehorse named Birdcatcher. They can appear on any color background, in many different patterns, in many breeds.

Sometimes these horses are called snowflake appaloosas or reverse appaloosas, but it's really just a color pattern thought to be associated with the sabino gene. Even the 2nd horse above, said to be an app, is obviously not.

Is this what you're looking for?

    Edit: Here's another:

So far to my knowledge there isn't one, but if there was that would be awesome! The closest thing that there's be is a black appaloosa with a white blanket. Actually while I was just surfing the web, I came across a picture that comes pretty close to your discription.

I think it all comes to breeding and patters when you are looking for a horse with a specific pattern. Here's the site!

I hope someone says yes and provides a link to photos, I would love to see one.

Thank you Classic Cowboy. God they are beautiful ( and I don't like regular Apps ). Why someone would give you a thumbs down puzzles me.

OK, now I am really confused. What is the difference between black base with white spots and a black Appoloosa with a white blanket?

COME ON GUYS! Help out an idiot here. Please explain what you are talking about.
