Donald Cerrone coulda beat Diaz EASY if he fought smart?

yes..diaz got the better of the standup and won the first round. but rounds 2 and 3 i think cerrone couldve won. If cerrone followed through with the knockdowns he coulda just grapple****ed diaz and outpointed him stealing rounds 2 and 3.

thoughts?

Cerrone fought a dumb fight the entire time. He should have adjusted much more quickly after Diaz started landing so many punches to his face. He should have dramatically increased his head movement (from zero) and changed to more elusive footwork. And he should have gone to his kicks much earlier in the fight, as they were the only thing that was working for him. Cerrone looked terrible all night - his strikes were slower and less powerful than normal because he could not adjust to Diaz's game. I agree he should have followed Diaz to the ground, at least in the third round, since it was obvious by then that he was losing the standup fight. He had nothing to lose by going for some ground and pound or a submission. I doubt it would have worked, but it was his only chance by that point.

i was yelling at my television for cerrone to do something when nate fell (even though i wanted nate to win) i don't like seeing fighters fighting stupid. but then i thought "maybe he wants no part of nate's dangerous guard and jiu jitsu. which is probably what it was.

    Bro 1st round was like a 10-8.

    2nd 10 9

    3rd 10 9

No he could not have. Diaz is to aggressive to accurate of a puncher, the leg kicks worked a little bit but not much diaz would get in close and clinch and dirty box cerrone. Even if cerrone threw more leg kicks like he tried in 1st round he was shut down by nate's boxing and dirty boxing skills.

Nate is just the superior fighter. Also how could he have out grappled diaz? Nate is a very proven grappler who has only had trouble with good jiu jitsu guys who are also great wrestlers who are all stronger than him. Cerrone has never had or shown good takedowns and he is not a big wrestler like maynard who could hold nate down and stall. Nate would reverse cerrone.

Source(s): dont underestimate cesar gracie jiu jitsu academy that place is sick.

Cerrone just had bad preparation. To prepare for an unorthodox fighter like Diaz you need a training partner who can copy Diaz's style. If Cerrone had that he would have been prepared.

But the ground is where Diaz is best at. Cerrone didn't want to get caught in a bad position by going to the ground with him. But he probably shoulda at least tried, because he wasn't winning stand up wise.

As tired as Donald was, I don't think fighting someone like Diaz on the mat. He did well just to score points and keep in it.
