The kooks who believe this (ironically they're usually Fundie Christians but are basing this on a Mayan calendar) say it will be December 21, 2012, not Jan 1, 2012.

well i think the world is supposed to end on the 21st december 2012 not the start, (thats what it says in the movie "2012") and its just a theory because the mayan calendar ends then, and people think its the apocolypse!!

It`s to do with the Mayan calender which ends later on in 2012, so we are safe for a while yet.

I think most people who are scared the world will end in 2012 think it will happened on December 21 not just any random day in the year. Personally I don't think we have anything to worry about. We will here next year getting ready to welcome 2013. Happy New Year!!!!!
