what can i save things on?

I don't know the word, I am looking for something that's like a memory stick, but they are larger and less portable, I want it to move items off my laptop as I hear the bigger models are cheaper than memory sticks but I don't know what they are called..

You are looking for an external hard drive. There are different types though. The regular ones that work with magnetic disks inside, or the ones that are called "solid state drive" or short SSD. You might want to get a SSD which have decreased power consumption (they only need USB, no additional power supply) and an incredibly small failure rate (your data is going to be safe for life on one of those). They are basically like a memory stick, just larger. Many would still fit into your pocket though :)
