Do you/did you tip your Dish Network installer?

I got installation for free.

Would it be proper to tip the tech who comes by? Or would tipping be odd?

If so, like what, $20?

I tipped my cable installer since it was very hot and he had to do a lot of work. I also provided soda. I did $20 and he seemed very happy with that.

I know they get piecework pay in where I live (my friend used to work for Direct TV). So if it took the guy 20 minutes or 8 hours, he gets the same pay! So I tipped because my house was one of the trouble houses as opposed to one of the easy jobs.

He gave me his card and said to call him directly if I had questions or any issues. I did not have issues, but I don't think he needed to do that normally.

I am a when in doubt, give a tip type person! I don't like the "cheap" attitude of many people where a tip is some prize, or based on if the person "makes enough" money. It is a sign of gratitude for a service performed showing you appreciated them looking after you.

Unless the person does something special for you, I would not tip...it's simply not necessary to do so.
