Have any ideas for a simple astronomy themed wedding?

I'm getting married in September and I'm working on some more wedding planning. My wedding colors are Dark Blue, White, and Silver.

I'm renting an arch and wrapping dark blue fabric within and around it, and somehow incorporate silver and white stars on the fabric.

I'm also going to be making cardboard cutouts of shooting stars and decorating in silver.

My main issue, that I'm currently having is centerpieces. I don't want flowers, it's not really me. Also, no candles.

Any ideas would be appreciated. :)

First of all, love the theme, colors and all! And secondly, centerpieces were the first thing that came to my mind when I read the question. Imagine: glass jars filled with water (dyed dark blue), and you could get somewhat heavy balls and paint them to look like planets and submerge them in the water. I envision them not on the surface but throughout the jar, and I wonder if you could use like a gel to suspend them better instead of water, like in some candles? Water beads might work too.

I also could see a "galaxy" centerpiece, made to look like the milky way. I would choose a tall thick candle in the center either dark blue silver or white, but you could pick a small light fixture, maybe wrapped Christmas lights? Loosely wrap it in dark blue glittery thick ribbon so it wraps and wraps around it. I also love the idea of circular mirrors underneath this idea.

Here's the best image I could find for this idea, just note the way the beads (which would also be pretty and silver and white ones could represent the stars, and the ribbon could go underneath) are wrapped widely around the candle http://www.decoratingstudio.com/images/images_frin...

You could also incorporate some white Christmas lights under the ribbon to represent the stars! You can look up wrapping techniques to make the whole cord fit. http://ts2.mm.bing.net/images/thumbnail.aspx?q=144...

My cousin also made this ball of light I think would be perfect for your wedding! I don't know how she did it, but it's made from Christmas light ropes http://a7.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc3/267...

You could put a different planet on every table, but that might get corny and might end up not looking as elegant.

    Hope this helps!

Ok I don't know that much about wedding planning but astronomy is really neat theme so I'll give it a shot. As far as decorations go I think this would be really cool for the dancefloor or something cause it might not woork too well in the light http://www.thinkgeek.com/geektoys/8ed4/

Ohh! you could also put nebulas or something on invitation cards or centerpieces. Also, If you're having a cake I think putting the bands of jupiter with the red spot on it would be really cool!

    Have fun!

Hmmm... why don't you name the tables different constellations and make the actual constellation and put it in the center? You can scale them down and make them easier. That'll be so nerdy, LOL...

Or you can do different planets or something. I don't know. I've never heard of an Astronomy theme, but I'm tryin'!

You could even use some round Christmas ornaments in several glass bowls.

I have several of these from the Christmas tree store for $1 each.Put them in a lovely low bowl and it fits right into your theme.http://www.save-on-crafts.com/6porbalbr3wi.html

You can hand some of these from branches in your centerpieces :http://www.google.com/products/catalog?hl=en&qscrl...

    Congratulations .
