Is it true that the Bible tells you to kill someone who works on a Sunday?

I heard this somewhere, but I didn't believe this statement to be true.

My mother worked on Christmas day, which was on Sunday, and I wouldn't be happy if a radical Christian/Christian extremist killed my mother and her co-workers due to thir religious beliefs...

However, I don't think this is completely true since a lot of Chritisans work on Sunday after Church. So someone please answer properly, does the Bible literally command its followers to kill someone who works on a Sunday? No offensive comments please, and if it does say this and you know it does, please don't lie to me, because I won't start to discriminate against any Christians!

No the Bible absolutely does not say that you should kill anyone who works on a Sunday. The Bible says not to kill anyone at all. "Thou Shalt Not Kill". What I believe the Bible means is that in the old days (biblical times) jobs were pretty much only on week days so the Bible means that on Sunday you should relax and take some time out because we should be working as hard as we can when at work.

What is important when we read the Bible is to modernise if we don't think that the situation can fit into our lives.

I hope that I have helped a little.

    God Bless

And while the children of Israel were in the wilderness, they found a man that gathered sticks upon the sabbath day. And they that found him gathering sticks brought him unto Moses and Aaron, and unto all the congregation. And they put him in ward, because it was not declared what should be done to him. And the LORD said unto Moses, The man shall be surely put to death: all the congregation shall stone him with stones without the camp. And all the congregation brought him without the camp, and stoned him with stones, and he died; as the LORD commanded Moses. (Numbers 15:32-36 ;Not observed by Christians, Jews or Muslims generally)

And it came to pass, that he went through the corn fields on the sabbath day; and his disciples began, as they went, to pluck the ears of corn. And the Pharisees said unto him, Behold, why do they on the sabbath day that which is not lawful? And he said unto them, Have ye never read what David did, when he had need, and was an hungred, he, and they that were with him? How he went into the house of God in the days of Abiathar the high priest, and did eat the shewbread, which is not lawful to eat but for the priests, and gave also to them which were with him? And he said unto them, The sabbath was made for man, and not man for the sabbath: Therefore the Son of man is Lord also of the sabbath. (Mark 2:23-28)

No, the bible does NOT say to kill someone who works on Sunday. Sunday is NOT the Sabbath. The Roman Catholic church on their own authority changed the day of worship to Sunday. Not by any biblical mandate, their OWN authority. They also ruled that all who worshiped on Sunday were mere separated brethren of the Catholic church as they still obeyed Papal decree.

Perhaps you should read the documents regarding the Council of Trent.

There is no requirement to observe days in the New Covenant.

What you are seeing is where people take old covenant points of law, alter them up a bit, and apply them to Christians and Christianity, contrary to New Covenant theology.

This is commonly called "twisting Scripture" and is never a valid method of determining one's beliefs.

  • No.

The rule is to kill people who work on the Sabbath, which is from Friday at Sunset through Saturday at Sunset.

ADD: The original commandment reads "Thou shalt not murder," which is completely different from "Thou shalt not kill." Insofar as there are numerous circumstances that mandate a death penalty in Leviticus, interpreting the commandment as "Thou shalt not kill" is clearly an error.

The Bible tends to impose that punishment on anyone who breaks any of their rules.

These rules including promiscuity, men shaving their facial hair, cutting one's hair, homosexuality, gossip, associating with women on their periods, etc...

    All of those, death.

I don't know how this religion has survived...

Only sin brings death. If you don't sin you cannot die.

Now if you are a sinner Christ died to save you and give you eternal life. Do you really think He would die to save us and then want to kill any who work on a Sunday, as you put it?

The Bible teaches the Almighty Father's Sabbath is Saturday. Catholicism and Protestantism has changed this Holy Day to Sunday having it's origin in paganism.
