Is being 100% delusional and confused after surgery normal?

My grandmother had back surgery about a week ago. Out of surgery she seemed very groggy, but nothing out of the ordinary. We got her home 2-3 days later. The following day we took her back to the hospital because she is 100% delusional. She is seeing things, talking to people that aren't there, shaking, and even having problems identifying her loved ones. It's been almost a week since the onset of these symptoms and she is still in the hospital. Best hospital in Pittsburgh. CTs are done daily along with blood work and other tests. Everything has come back negative and the drs don't really have an answer. Has anyone else experienced this? If so how long before they return to normal, if they return to normal?

It just seems that someone flipped a switch because she's a completely different person. She's only 65 and was 100% functional before the surgery.

Any answer or suggestions would be highly appreciated.

Update:

I don't think anything happened during surgery because she seemed normal the first 2 days going into the 3rd day. I'm not too sure why the cr scans either. I don't have any medical knowledge other than common sense but I was thinking along the same lines as anesthesia is still lingering in her brain and body causing everything. It's so bad, I brought her a stuffed dog because the dr said she doesn't shake as much if she's holding something. She really thinks its a real dog.

Well if they are doing CT's 'daily' they are further harming her with radiation . At her age she cannot afford anymore radiation so that should stop at once. they can use ultra sound which is much safer.

Next, it is commonly known that she could and probably having a reaction to the anesthesia, so why the CT's is beyond competant medicine. They probably don't want the family suing. Something may have gone wrong in the surgery, also.

Get a naturopathic doctor to help her clear out her liver and system of the anesthesia and STOP with the CT's.

If you need to consult with a medical malpractice attorney, then do that, they will find out what happened in surgery. bestlawyers.com

My mom had surgery at 70 years old and it took her about 2 days to get back to her original mental state. Perhaps your grandma had a stroke or something. It doesn't seem right, that's for sure.

I had surgery (I'm 50) last year and I was just groggy for a few days and slept a lot. Anesthesia really throws you for a loop, but mentally I was fine. For some people, they just react badly to anesthesia.

I'm sorry, this is very scarey for you and for your grandma too!
