I have a kindle fire and my parents wont let me buy books. What should I do?

I'm turning 17 in a few days and its not like I have a credit card but I HAVE cash. My personal cash from Christmas presents that id like to save but I asked my parents if I could just get an amazon giftcard so I could buy books with my money on my kindle hut they said no Bc they want me to save it for when I need books for school or something. Wff? They're my parents. First of all, they ought to provide for me so they ought to be buying my school books and second- I don't even need any more books for school for the year. I asked for a nook for Christmas so I could 'borrow' them or read them for free at b&n but they got me a kindle fire instead Bc they thought it was better and yeah there are free books on the kindle but I want others. I love reading so the point of this wasn't to use this device as an ipad or whatever. I want to read!! Wtf? I'm about to just tell them to return it for being so difficult. This isn't what I had in mind. At all.

You got a months worth of Amazon prime with the Kindle Fire, so you can borrow. You can also download any of the thousands of free books form the Amazon site.

These are free sites and in copyright compliance.

    http://openlibrary.org/

Search for a title and make sure to check the 'Only show eBooks' checkbox.

    http://www.gutenberg.org/wiki/Main_Page

    http://www.manybooks.net/

These sites are all free & legal. i.e. in copyright compliance

If your public library has Overdrive downloadables, you can borrow e-books with your library card.

    Okay, first of all...

"they ought to be buying my school books"

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA... Oh, you were serious? Okay. Well. No. They shouldn't. And I'm guessing they are talking more about books for COLLEGE. Which cost at least $20 a piece for English books, and usually $150-200 for books for science and math. You are almost 17. Act like it. It is not your parents job to pay for you for the rest of your life, and you SHOULD be saving up for school now.

Also, you're complaining about your parents buying you a Kindle. Are you serious? Be a grown up. Your parents bought you an expensive piece of equipment and you're whining about it? In a year or two, you'll be out of your parents house (hopefully) and can use that Kindle for whatever you want.

Also, why the heck can't you just BUY an amazon gift card? You know that you can buy them in stores, right? Just hope over to target or best buy or whatever after school and buy one. Don't have a car? Walk.

This entire question is just so ridiculous. Be a grown up. Use your head. And stop whining about the fact that your parents bought you a $100+ item for Christmas.

"First of all, they ought to provide for me so they ought to be buying my books..." "I'm just about to tell them to return it for being so difficult."

Give me a break. Can they return YOU for being so difficult? Pleeeeeease...

I saved my own hard-earned money for my electronic devices, including my Kindle Fire. Yes, you can read free books at B&N, but do you plan on living there? Once you leave the store, the books are gone.

You may be "turning 17 in a few days", but you're sounding like a 3 year old. I'd suggest you see if there's a Grow Up app and download it - now.

What i would do is just go to b&n and get a gift card without your parents knowing. And use your christmas money to buy yourself books for your kindle. I have been wanting eaither a nook or kindle for a very long time and my parents say i don't need one. I hope that helps.

They have some free books in the Kindle Store, just look for them. You can also download previews of books. You can always just buy a Visa giftcard and set that up with your amazon account; that will let you buy books.

There are quite a few free books on Amazon. Start with these. Also, you can find plenty of books free of rights online. Just copy paste into notebook and save into your kindle. Let people know Amazon giftcards are a good present for you for your upcoming birthdays and christmases.

If you want to buy an Amazon giftcard, then buy one. You don't need to buy them online with a credit card. You can buy them over the counter in various stores: there's a list on Amazon here:

So, just take your cash, walk into a store and buy one. How are your parents going to know?

Alternatively, get a job. You're a little past the age where you should be expecting your parents to provide everything for you, to be honest.

If you'll go ahead and read some of the free books for a couple of weeks, they might rethink what they said. Lots of kids out there are thinking, "Gee, I wish someone had given me a Kindle. I want that problem."
