cable companies prevent you from recording programs on their systems?

I have a recorder. It is supposed to record via either cd or vcr. I have used a Hdmi to try. I have used the 2/3 prongs RCA plug ins to try.Any other suggestions appreciated. I do not want to pay for the cable companies insistence I must use them.

You must have something wired wrong. You can record cable. Some Cable systems DVR's prevent recording of selected shows but that is in cable company DVR's not what you own.

I assume by CD you mean a DVD recorder.

Assuming you have digital cable that requires a box. Cable from the wall to the input of the cable box. Take the Audio/Video output of the cable box (Yellow, Red, White to the input of the VCR/CD Recorder. Set the cable box to the channel you want to record. Set the VCR/DVD recorder to channel 3, (or 4 depending of the switch setting on the back of the VCR/CD) Record only channel 3 / 4 not the channel that the show is on. Take the Audio Video output of the VCR/DVD to the TV set. Put the TV on Aux input. Hit record on the VCR / DVD when your show comes on. If using a recoding menu make sure you record channel 3 / 4.
