if 6.1 x 10^9 pieces of sand are combined with 3.9 x 10^9 pieces of sand, how many pieces of sand are there all together?

basically, what is 6.1 x 10^9 + 3.9 x 10^9 = ______

    Since they are both 10^9, just add 6.1 and 3.9.

    It equals 10

    And since there is another 0,

    Then add 1 to the 9,

    Therefore the answer is 1 x 10^10 pieces of sand

    6.1 x 10^9 + 3.9 x 10^9= (6.1 + 3.9)x10^9 = 10x 10^9 = 10^10.....it was simple silly
