Differences between ukulele and guitar?

I already play guitar, and I got a ukulele for Christmas. The thing is, I know officially nothing about ukulele. What are the similarities and differences between the two (guitar & ukulele), and any tips on playing?

They are not tuned the same to begin with. If you play chords on a guitar, and you want to play the same chords on the 4 -string ukelele, the fingering is in reverse. While both have strings, the Ukelele has nylon strings, shorter neck, and more fragile than a guitar.

Check this chord chart to give you an idea about the fingering of chords.

    A Guitar has 6 strings: E2 A2 D3 G3 B3 E4

    A Uke has 4 strings: G4 C4 E4 A4 ("Goats Can Eat Anything")

A uke plays higher notes than a guitar. The strings of a guitar are in order from lowest to highest, but the strings of a uke are not!!! Thus, the fingering is completely different. Outside of the fact that they are about an octave apart, their sounds are very similar because they are very similar instruments (string, use tablature, can be plucked or strummed, both have fretboards).

The chords are different. I personally played guitar for 2 years before I got a uke, but it would probably only take a few months. I didn't want a uke until two years after starting guitar. I don't think you could learn ukulele on guitar, though. Maybe buy a cheap uke? I got a fairly good quality, nice looking wood one for £30.

The similarities are that they both are stringed instruments, they both play chords, they have a similar shape. Differences are the tuning and the uke only has 4 strings. I strongly suggest that you buy some ukelele books which have songs with chord diagrams. The chord shapes on the uke are different so get a ukelele chord chart or book.
