I've had U/C for over 20 years and for half that a Hiatus hernia. I take 60mg Lansoprazole daily?

But even so, over the last year or so, I have to be really careful what I eat for my evening meal as I get acid reflux during the night.

My doctor says loose weight and I promise I have really, really tried hard, but I'm inactive with other health problem and I can't eat too much vegetables or fruit as it makes my U/C worse, so I'm in a catch 22. However, I'm not hugely fat, but I wish I could loose some weight, but I have also to accept that that is not going to happen at present.

Now, this is my query:

My husband takes Esomeprazole for his reflux as he had pre-cancerous cells of the esophagus.

Could I ask my Specialist to change me to Esomeprazople too? Are they better than Lansoprazole?

Weight loss can help, but as you say it's not easy. Eat as healthily as you can. (Ask your doc to refer you to a dietitian). Exercise (even walking) as much as you can.

Asking for a different med isn't a bad idea. Some meds just work better for patients than others.

    Good luck.
