It means that they (the kafirs) know the truth but still they don't believe, they hear the truth but still they don't believe, they see the truth (meaning the signs of Allah) but still they don't believe. And that is why they will get a very painful punishment.

    Assalamu alaikum.

    Edit:

First let us understand the word Kafir. Kafir comes from the root word "kafara" which means to cover up; to hide. So in Islamic context, a kafir is a person who knows the truth but covers it up; meaning he is a liar.

But what would you call a person who is not aware of the truth? Keep in mind that he hasn't covered up the truth yet because he has not yet heard the truth. So you would call him a person who is not yet Muslim because he has not yet been called to the truth (of Islam). And these are the people who become Muslims because when they hear the truth, they accept it and they don't deny it/cover it up.

Our job is not to convert anybody into Muslim. Our job is to just convey the message of Islam to them. If they accept it, alhamdulillah but if they don't, then let them be like that. For it is Allah who guides people towards Islam, not us, our job is to just convey them the message.

Let's examine who is saying these things in the Surat al Baqara that you are quoting. This is Mohammad, for one, speaking as himself. Surat al Baqara, incidentally, is the 87th one in the original chronological sequence and is the first of the Medina Verses where we see Mohammad begin to turn right about face against all the earlier verses that he had claimed to be revealed in Mecca. You can see that for yourself in the link below.

In the Surat al Mudathir, the fourth in the chronological order, later made into the 74th in the edited version that you now know, this is what Mohammad had claimed as the Revelation.

    Qur'an, Surat al-Muddathir, 74:30-31

And We have set none but angels as Guardians of the Fire; and We have fixed their number only as a trial for Unbelievers,- in order that the People of the Book may arrive at certainty, and the Believers may increase in Faith,- and that no doubts may be left for the People of the Book and the Believers, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the Unbelievers may say, "What symbol doth Allah intend by this?" Thus doth Allah leave to stray whom He pleaseth, and guide whom He pleaseth: and none can know the forces of thy Lord, except He and this is no other than a warning to mankind.

Here, as we can see from the supporting tafsirs and hadiths which are too many to recount here, the Angel Maalik and the 19 assistant Angels called al Zabaniah, were created with a separate Hell for the Disbelievers whom the Angels are commanded to torture for Eternity. However, what is irrational about this is the fact that Allah says here that He Created the Disbelievers and preordained that they shall disbelieve and, not satisfied with having created these poor people whose lives were already preordained, punishes them for Eternity for doing His Will!

    Qur'an - Surah al-Qam'r 54:49 & 53

Verily, We have created all things with Qadar (Divine Preordainments of all things before their creation, as written in the Book of Decrees Al-Lauh Al-Mahfûz).

And everything, small and big is written (in Al-Lauh Al-Mahfûz already beforehand i.e. before it befalls, or is done by its doer).

This confirms that it is Allah who decides upon all things and that they are all fated to do Allah's Will.

Sahih Bukhari - Prophets, Volume 4. Book 55. Number 550

Narrated Anas bin Malik: The Prophet said. "Allah has appointed an angel in the womb. and the angel says. 'O Lord! A drop of discharge (i.e. of semen). O Lord! a clot. O Lord! a piece of flesh.' And then. if Allah wishes to complete the child's creation. the angel will say. 'O Lord! A male or a female? O Lord! wretched or blessed (in religion)? What will his livelihood be? What will his age be?' The angel writes all this while the child is in the womb of its mother."

You can see that further supported in the Sahih Hadith above where it clearly says that the Angel scribe asks Allah if this new baby shall be blessed or not with religion.

Long and short of it is that Allah decides who shall believe and disbelieve when they in their mothers' wombs and seals their Fate right there.

So, your question about what is the use of performing dawah to the Disbelievers is answered by Mohammad, himself, there where he says clearly - "Indeed, those who disbelieve - it is all the same for them whether you warn them or do not warn them - they will not believe.

Allah has set a seal upon their hearts and upon their hearing, and over their vision is a veil. And for them is a great punishment."

Are you Greater than Allah, who has set the seal?

As to how come there are some Disbelievers who convert to Islam, the evident thing is that Allah's Word is not strong enough and that the entire Koran and Islam is a Lie. Of course, only the most deluded and credulous Disbeliever would ever convert to Islam; and, if we examine that, we find is it almost always to marry someone they want. So, where is the credibility of Mohammad and his Koran, now?

Dear you had just pointing the meaning of the version you go in detail of this version means when it comes and why it said. In fact it is the feature of that categories which Allah had mention. Actually 1st Mohammed (SAS) has told to do dawah then slow and gradually Allah (S.T) guide him in that also, in fact as you will see in surah Kauf Allah say to Mohammed SAS don't be so stressful for this you might become more stress if you over tense that why they don't believe in Allah. And in surah yasin he says 36:6 In order that you may warn a people whose forefathers were not warned, so they are heedless.

and then again he categories about others type

36:7 Indeed the Word has proved true against most of them, so they will not believe.

So this is one of the type when after dawah Allah has announced what is the reason they don't. believe as Allah knows every thing.

Now the question might arise if Allah had Seal then how they will do so, the answer from the quran is that this thing happen when his Slave understand the fact and then deny and turn away in such condition if Allah finalise then it won't happen. As Iblis was one of jinn but use to pray much but after knowing all this he disobey in the mean of arrogance.

So Allah never do any thing without reason only one thing is that this life is a examination so one have to prove in that people turn back. In fact to do dawah is one of the chosen person otherwise if any one thing if he don't do dawah also then how the people knows the truth then it is Allah who had already plan for that whom to chose and whom to not. And no person in this world who had a understanding of living will die without knowing this truth. But after knowing he deny that is one thing different.

Allah (SWT) knows what is in the hearts of man. He knows who are the true believers and who are the disbelievers. He puts a seal on the hearts of the disbelievers and makes it such that they will never be led towards the light no matter how much dawah you give them. Then there are those who are not followers of Islam, but they have goodness in their hearts. Allah (SWT) removes the seals on their hearts and they then see the light and revert to Islam as I have done. So dawah is not given for everyone, but is given in order to sift out the believers from the disbelievers. Whom Allah (SWT) has guided, none shall lead astray and whom Allah (SWT) has led astray, none shall make them see the light.

In the name of Allah , the most beneficent ,the most merciful.

    Wa salam Brother,

We have to understand first about Human and Jinn what's the specialty they have get from the God.

They have sense to thing the matters and whatever they want all freedom . Right.

So after that god is completed god responsibility to send us the holy books and the god messengers. Right.

Then this verses mentioned about those who have received truth from the god and disbelieve in the Quran and the messenger.

So our responsibility to give Dahwa through Quran and Hadith.

They believe or not that is not our mission.

    So We Muslim Believe On

"The Messenger has believed in what was revealed to him from his Lord, and [so have] the believers. All of them have believed in Allah and His angels and His books and His messengers, [saying], "We make no distinction between any of His messengers." And they say, "We hear and we obey. [We seek] Your forgiveness, our Lord, and to You is the [final] destination." ( Quran 2:285 )

Do you mean kefir? I was just drinking some kefir. There was no evidence of a god. Not that it makes any difference. There was no evidence of a god for Muhammad, either.

It is so unfortunate that people cling to the random, ad hoc utterances from the leader of a viscous militia, dead 1400 years, and attempt to interpret them as to accurately portray the world in all its complexity, most of which Muhammad could not have known. For the Aztecs, it was human sacrifice just to get corn to grow, and this just because the leader of some viscous militia said it was so, backed up with punishment or death for non-conformity.

A similar situation occurred with the recently deceased leader of North Korea, except that rather than terrorizing and dominating people in the name of some god, he took the place of the god. Hitler, on the other hand, claimed to be doing the work of some god. He wrote a book, too.

There is a real world, with a real history, and a history that goes back much farther than that of Homo sapiens. We are here now on the only planet we can live on, and facing nuclear war in the name of religion between India and Pakistan. The history of their animosity follows directly from the history of Islamic domination of India in the past. And now they cannot live together peacefully; instead they have nuclear weapons aimed at each other. And for what? For no wholesome reason, I am sure.

That is just one of the issues far more important than the meaning of religious propaganda. The problems we face as a species cannot be solved with religion. It has never worked in the past, and will not work in the future. Try something else. The propensity of human beings to clump together in paranoid hatred of their neighbors lies within our own brains, not in the will of some god. We alone are responsible for what we do.

I know that my position is difficult and offers less superficial security. But what security is there in the constant threat of annihilation or domination in the name of some god? The people of Iran endured 8 years of war from the people of Iraq. Leaders on both sides hoped to have some god on their side, the same god. Religion just does not work.

    Quote:

"2.7 Allah has set a seal upon their hearts and upon their hearing, and over their vision is a veil."

Well that doesn't sound like a "most merciful" god to me!

Wake up, people. The Quran is full of contradictions like this one. You claim Christianity is false, which is good. I CHALLENGE YOU to use that same healthy skepticism with Islam!

Seems more like that even if you were to show them (disbeliever) the biggest miracle, they still wouldn't believe in Allah.

But I don't think it's limited to "disbelievers" as we know them. Even arrogant Muslims etc are included.
