No war can be a holy war...War is pain...suffering..death..agony...uncle agony etc....it is fine. Those people lived in the earlier yugas were more educated, more jnanis and they know a war is not a holy war, but they say it is 'dharma yuddha'. Hence, the place krukshetra was called 'dharma kshetra'.

it is holy place because krishna touched the land, Bhishma touched the land, Yudhishtra and other dharmatmas touched the land.

Don't you heard about healings? This land transformed by healing of great people.

Though the place been a cursed one due to several thousands human, animals death, it became pure and holy because of the great ones i narrated above.

Irrespective of what happened there, it was addressed by Drutharaashtra as 'Dharmakshetra', with no knowledge that Bhagavatgeeta is going to be preached there and even before the first ball was bowled in the bout.

    "Dharmakshetre Kurukshetre Samaveta Yuyutsava:

    Maamakaa: Paandavaaschaiva Kimakurvata Sanjaya?"

So the answer is clear that it is not a cursed place. If dharma is holy, it has to be a holy place!

Further, to quote Swami Chinmayananda, a scholar on the Geeta,

"Kurukshetra is a place where untold religious sacrifices were performed. And something more. Kurukshetra was situated between two sacred rivers: the Jumna and the Saraswati in the Northwestern part of India. A river is perpetually sacred. A river houses water. Water signifies consciousness in the domain of spirituality. And this consciousness is always pure, unalloyed, sanctifying and energising. So we now come to learn why Kurukshetra was called dharmakshetra and not otherwise".

Sacrifice here means, 'Yagyas', not the sacrifice of any life or deaths in war that is being talked about by the Sawimiji.

    Kurukshetra the Holy place

Kurukshetra is a great pilgrimage for millions of Hindus from all over the country who visit the land of Kurukshetra, the venue of the Mahabharata war and the birth place of the Bhagvad Gita, for its holy places.Mythologically, the name Kurukshetra applied to a circuit of about 80 miles (128 kms.) which includes a large number of holy places, temples and tanks, connected with the ancient Indian traditions and the Mahabharata war.Kurukshetra besides being a seat of learning and knowledge for Hundus has also been a place of great interest for Sikhs. This land has become holier with the advent of all the Sikh Gurus who have visited this place from time to time

    Kurukshetra the cursed place-

    Curse of Mother Gandhari

Mahabharata, the historical battle fought in Kurukshetra resulted in the death of all the hundred sons of King Dhritarashtra and Gandhari. Lord Krishna is said to have visited Mother Gandhari to offer his condolence. In a fit of rage and sorrow, Mata Gandhari cursed Bhagwan Krishna that just as the Kaurava dynasty had ended fighting with each other, similarly the Yaduvanshi dynasty would end fighting and killing each other. Mother Gandhari felt that Sri Krishna didn't play a fair role in putting an end to the war. Lord Krishna happily accepted the curse.

Krukshetra is a Holy place. There is no reason to find this place 'a cursed place'.

First this place is not called as ''Kuru''. This place is called 'Krukshetra'. In your question you did not come ''Hinduism...Kurukshetra...Holy place or cursed place?''. From your question itself it is known this place is a Kshetra. so, no further answer needed. Second, when a place called from olden period to this period as Kshetra, it is known to everyone that the place is a sacred one. so,people from ancient days to this day consider this place as a sacred one and hence it is a holy place.

The Third is most important. In this place only Bhagwan Srikrishna teached Bhagavat gita to Arjuna. This one matter itself a great proof to say krukshetra is a holy place. The birth of Bhagavat Gita taken in this holy place.

my answer to your question is over. This is the answer to your question. However, i add some points to support my answer.

You said this is the place where the Mahabharata war occured. The war is not a play. To save Dharma the war occured. So, this place is called 'Dharma Kshetra'.

Most of the Vedic literature was composed here and most of the social, religious and political traditions of this country arose in this region. It is therefore regarded as the cradle of Indian civilisation and culture. Kurukshetra shot into prominence as the battle field of Mahabharta and as the birth place of the holy Gita. The great 18-day battle of Mahabharta was fought here in the ancient past between Kauravas and Pandavas for upholding the cause of dharma. It was a war between good and evil, in which the Pandavas were victorious. Bhagvad Gita, the Song Celestial, is the divine message which lord Krishna delivered to Arjuna on the eve of the Great War when he saw the latter wavering from his duty. It epitomises all that is the best and noblest in the Hindu philosophy of life.

    This is more important:

Kurukshetra is mentioned a great deal in ancient literature. A flourishing country of the Kurus, it was the most sacred region of the Dvapara age according to the Matsya Purana and one of the sixteen Mahajanapadas of Jambudvipa.

It was the region of lakes and lotus beds which can be seen even now. Manu indirectly praises the prowess of the people of Kurukshetra. Bana describes it as the land of the brave in the eyes of the warriors.

The place was visited by Buddha and appears to have been favoured by his masterly discourses. Kurukshetra also finds mention in Panini's Ashtadhyayi. It was also visited by nine out of the ten Sikh Gurus, Guru Angad Dev the Second Guru, being the only exception.

The place where Guru Nanak stayed during his sojourn at Kurukshetra is well known as Gurdwara Sidhbati on a mound near the pumping station across the Kurukshetra Tank. The gurdwara dedicated to Guru Hargobind, the sixth guru, stands near Sannihit tank.Another gurdwara near the Sthaneshwar tank marks the spot sanctified by the visit of the ninth Guru Tegh Bahadur. And on the main bank of the Kurukshetra tank, stands the Gurdwara Rajghat built in the memory of the visit of the tenth Guru Gobind Singh.

Dharmakṣetre kurukṣetre samavetā yuyutsavaḥ, māmakāḥ pāṇḍavāś caiva kim akurvata sañjaya (Gita 1.1). This is the first verse of the Bhagavadgita. It is a query raised by King Dhritarashtra to his counsellor, Sanjaya: “When the Pandavas and the Kauravas were arrayed in the field for a battle, what actually happened? How did they get on among themselves?”

This world, this field of universal conflict, may also be considered as Dharmakshetra and Kurukshetra at the same time. The field of the Mahabharata war was the geographical location called Kurukshetra – a place of pilgrimage even now, which you can visit whenever you have time. It is also designated in this verse as Dharmakshetra because it is said that in this particular holy spot many yajnas or sacrifices were performed by rishis of yore; therefore, the place has the blessedness of being charged with the atmosphere of sanctity generated by sacrifices – yajnas performed even by gods themselves, as the tradition goes.

    Holy as well as Cursed:

Philosophically saying, Holy since it witnessed the Bhagvad Geeta and Cursed because of Brothers Killed Brothers, and Widows wept.

    Or

If we go by true meaning of words Neither Cursed nor Holy may be just a place.

Gandhari cursed Krishna and his vamsa for making kurukshetra war. That is why "Yadukula" disappeared from the world. So Kurukshetra is a cursed place. All war places have curses of Mothers.

as far as I know there is no curse laid upon the land of Kurukshetra........and don't no if it can be called holy or something...but whatever happened over it was for good of mankind...I look at it as a witness of the great war of Mahabharata

Try to understand their limitation. They are simply translating Dharma yudh as religious war or holy war.

Nobody wanted that war. You don't have to explain answerer that war is pain... suffering...death...agony etc... Rather you save it for your children. Pakistan from the day one is asking for Kashmir, now China is asking for Arunachal. Thank God, you are not PM of this country. Otherwise you would have amended constitution to give what Pakistan and China is asking for.

Save your views on war for your children. Answerers don't need your preaching on consequences of war. Instead, appreciate them that even with limitation to explain Dharma, they tried.

Also stop judging places as cursed one or holy. Save that for your children too.

In the first Shaloka of Bhagwad Gita itself, it is mentioned that it is most important ‘Dharm Kshetra’. So it is a holy place.
