Spray tanning is a great, though temporary, way to give your skin a gorgeous *healthy* glow. Always have it applied by a technician, rather than an automated booth. Technicians have more control over how much and where the spray is applied. They can usually help you pick the correct solution level for your skin tone--though we always recommend choosing a shade that is only a few shades darker than your natural tone. If you choose something super dark or super light, you could end up looking like an oompa-loompa.

Regardless of which brand you select, the most important thing to remember is to select a shade that is appropriate for your natural skin tone. If you have fair skin, use a product with 5-8% DHA. If you have medium to dark skin, use a product with 10-12% DHA. DHA is the active ingredient in spray tans and sunless products that reacts with the skin and is responsible for the color change we call a sunless tan.

  • Oh Mystic Tan...how do I love thee...

I've done Mystic Tan booths about 6 or 7 times in my life...and have had about 3 bad experiences with them...the other four? GREAT.

Some Do's and Don'ts for you all:

DO put barrier cream on the tops and bottoms of your hands AND feet. trust me, you dont want to look like you've been stomping on or high fiving Oompa Loompas...not cute.

DO wear the cap! your hair line will soak up ALOT of color and GD does that look awful.

DO hold your breathe. that stuff stinks to breathe in, and if you do, you'll breathe it right back out which results in these really godawful lines under your nose, which will then turn into a Hitler-esque brown mustache thing. NOT CUTE.

DONT DONT DONT rub in the little droplets with your hands (because they WILL be there, just please use a towel). This is how you get cool orange palms. you're hands will either look dirty for days or look raw from all of the scrubbing you'll do trying to get the sh** off.

DONT! SWEAT! Put on some dark clothes, go home, and do something non strenuous for about three hours. if you sweat, the stuff will run and you WILL look streaky.

DO DO DO Moisturize. if you dont, it will flake. your skin sheds, and youll know exactly how it looks. in between your boobs will go first. then your back, then your arms, stomach and legs.

All in all, this works if you pick the appropriate level (I either do 3 or 4) for your skin tone, follow the directions exactly.

Versa!! I find personally the Mystic is a bit streaky and more on the orange side. The Versa on the other hand gives a more olive undertone so it looks more natural! As a self diagnosed spray tanaholic, I say go for Versa! :)

I thought it was just me. In my experience, Versa streaks BAD if you prespire from the salon to the air conditioned car in humid climate. I could smells it on my skin for days despite showering and applying scented products to mask it.

To be fair, I could have a unique body chemistry that reacts different to the product. Mystic did last longer, with a gradual fade, and no foul scent. Mystic appeared natural as well, compared to Versa. I looked brown/orange with Versa.

Mystic spray tan. There ate multiple shades to pick from so you don't turn orange. (:
