My english bulldog's nose is really dry and cracked. He is always well hydrated, what can I do to fix this?
We just adopted an English Bulldog from a friend of ours and I am familiar with the allergies associated with this breed as I have owned an Old English Bulldogge in the past.....even though those are less sensitive breeds than the regular English. However, this guys nose is sooo dried and cracked all the time not to mention his eyes are red, irritated and produce a puss like substance. He's probably got chronic dry eye and maybe some tear duct infection or blockage. I am going to get some eye drops for him, but what can I do for the nose issue? I've heard vasoline.....and yes he is always well hydrated. Any tips are appreciated. Thanks

I have the same problem with my Weimeraner. I took her to the vet and he said it is caused from the heater, which makes sense because she isn't like this in the summer. He recommended using saline nose drops (you can use the kind from walmart). I tried the vasoline but she kept licking it off.

Have his eyes checked by your veterinarian. Puss means a severe irritation or infection and needs to be treated appropriately. For the cracked nose hide, find a can of Bag Balm. It's a green can that can be found in livestock supply places and sometimes in drugstores.

A hot, dry nose means a fever. Take the dog's temp. It sounds like an infection, seek treatment.

You could try coconut oil. It's all natural and very hydrating. Also, if he happens to lick it, it will not only taste good but give him a little bit of exta nutrients, haha.
If you decide to try it you can get it at any local health food store.
Good luck!

I would think from your picture that you have an Old English Bulldog - rather than the more commonly known english bulldog - and two things make me think this - firstly his muzzle is definitely more elongated than I would expect to see in the english bulldog, and secondly he is also very much larger... the english bulldog's adult weight is between 55-58 pounds - whereas the old english's weight is between 60 - 80 pounds, which would fit your dog far more closely. Bear in mind that bulldogs don't grow uniformly - they can often achieve their adult height by five months, and look rather lanky, until they get the main head and chest growth at around eight or nine months - this may change his face shape somewhat - but I don't think he will ever get the sunken in nose of an english bulldog. Check online for Old English Bulldog (Bulldogge) sites - the pics on there look much more like your boy.

that is normal for saggy dogs. all the bulldogs and boxers i know (and have) all have it. the red is the tissue behind the eye. you see it because their skin sags down. as for the nose, if your really concerned, ask your vet
