Has to be determined by a VA doctor to be a "mental" disability severe enough to prevent you from working. Alcoholism itself will not do it. If you are referring to long term disability, the Federal Disability office will also require you to see one of their doctors to confirm the diagnosis.

Add: that's in the US. Not sure about UK.

No the VA WILL NOT consider it a Compensatable Disability...

If you are Labeled either a Alcoholic/Drug Abuser...

You are Screwed...they will try to blame every thing on that...

The US Supreme Court handed down that Finding years ago...

If you were ever in Combat...???

If the answer is yes...then they should have given you a Diagnosis of PTSD...

It is then called "Self Medicating"...

Also bet that you filed your Claim by yourself...

Not using a VSO from ie: DAV,VFW etc

It relies upon on the circumstances. for occasion, under the ADA and FMLA, alcoholism/substance abuse is considered a valid wellbeing situation, and your business enterprise ought to show you how to 'actual looking accomodation' and time far flung from artwork to seek for treament. even although, actual looking accomodation has oftentimes been interpreted to advise allowing an worker day off to attend a physician appointment or AA assembly, no longer allowing the guy to be actively utilising or under the impression collectively as at artwork. so some distance as incapacity money it would count on the coverage coverage, or whoever is making the money and their policies. oftentimes, i think of you need to get money for time in treatment, yet no longer purely for out of control substance abuse. In different phrases, i do no longer think of everybody's going to pay you to take a seat on your settee and drink.
