Upholstered chair construction?

I'm building myself a nice sittin' chair and I have a question about the springs. The design I have calls for zig zag springs. (also called sinuous springs, I think). However it doesn't specify the length of the springs. How does one measure this length? They are attached to the front and back rails, but at what point do I measure from? From the center of each rail? From the inside edge of each?

Thanks for any help.

They are called sinuous coils springs. They are stapled or nailed on the top edge of the wood frame box. Measure from the outside front top edge of the box to the outside back edge of the wood frame box. The thickness of the plywood frame is 1/2 inch. Measure in 1/4 inch and that is where they would be stapled. However, if you could insert coil springs, it would be more comfortable. Use the sinuous just for the back of the chair.
