My yorshire terrier wont eat his dry dog food?

We have a 3 1/2 old yorshire terrier puppy. When we bought him dog food we didn't check and now I noticed it says for yorshire terrier puppy's from 8 weeks to 10 months. It is royal canin 29 food. I am wondering is he not eatin it cause he likes canned food better or cause he just doesnt like his food or is it that it is for puppies 8 weeks to 10 months and that he is 3 1/2.

Update:

By the way we don't feed him by hand as Pamela D obviously doesn't understand...

Small dogs especially Yorkshires and Chihuahua's are picky eaters.

Try some "wet food" the smell is stronger and the taste and texture of the food may be more appealing.

I'd mix some of her old food with the new, to keep her digestive system from having to much trouble with the "switch", as switching dog foods quickly can cause an "upset stomach".

If you don't really want to. I'd just leave her be. A healthy dog won't starve and she'll eventually eat her food if not given any other food.

Usually when a dog stops "liking" his food it's because the owner is giving far too many treats, human food or not. At 3 1/2 your Yorkie is no longer a puppy and should be on adult food of some kind. The less you fool around trying different foods with him the better eater he will be. Treats are for training not just to fill him up if he decides he is not particularly fond of his regular dinner.

If you want to give him some people food, that is just fine, but put it into his dinner not to fill him up if he doesn't eat well.

Stop feeding your "YORKSHIRE" terrier by hand and treat him like he is a dog.

Put the food in a bowl and set it down and if he don't eat it in 15-20 minutes take it up.

A few hours later set it down again.

Continue doing this until he eats the food.

You have him spoiled by feeding him by hand, and feeding canned and human foods.

If a dog is allowed to get hungry they will eat.
