I need a free performance testing program.?

I need a free program for Windows that will check the performance of a computer, to help me pinpoint the cause of a computer running slower than it should be. Sort of like a benchmark program, only I don't need the fine precision to split small differences between hardware, I just want something fairly quick to run that will indicate whether performance is in the right ballpark. Running without installation would be a boon.

Anyone got any ideas?

    Advanced system care has a pretty good tool box, you have to install it though, but it is free.
