What foods and drinks aren't acidic?
I went to the doctor for chest pain and they ran some tests and I have acidic reflex problems right now and the doctor said to stay away from acidic foods and named a lot of them, but I don't know what else to drink or eat? Any drinks that aren't water?

>Low acid vegetables like corn, green beans, lettuce, celery, etc. Also, cereals are low acid. Dairy products which are NOT fermented (like sour cream) are low acid.

Digestion and metabolism are not the same thing. Acidic drinks may actually complicate digestion since it can signal to your gall bladder that you already have a high enough pH in your stomach when you really do not. Bitter foods, oddly enough, are ideal for improved digestion. Carbonated beverages (which are inherently acidic) can increase the passage of food from the stomach to the intestines because carbonation prompts the pyloric sphincter to open. Again, this is not a necessarily good thing...especially if you eat fast. Only physical exertion over time can increase actual metabolism.

I have acid reflux as well. Doctor said no coffee, no OJ or other citrus drinks, etc.
I have found that for me, coffee is OK but OJ really bothers my acid reflux. Same with too much greasy foods like potato chips.
So it's what your system can handle. Some fruit juices might be OK for you like apple, grape or pomegranate.

besides the acid, high fiber can also cause problems with acid reflux.

Besides describing what acid reflux is, this link also has good information for things you can do to help it besides taking medication.
My daughter has it and has used the advice in the link to help and they really do work.
