Are some of the cruise liners just too big and when something goes wrong, big problem?
some of these luxury cruise liners are like floating skyscrapers that can carry up to 4,200 people and some that can carry 6,000 people BUT when something goes wrong like what happened to the costa concordia that crashed into rocks at Tuscan coast, HOW do you get all these people off in such a short time?.......plus all these people come from all different parts of the world with different languages, how do you say or translate get life jacket on, jump, turn to the left or two the right?

There are lessons to be learned from the Costa Concordia. I would suggest crew training is important, and following "the book", like airline pilots do, after any incident. It seems that the captain rather played things by ear as he went along, with the result that nobody really knew what was going on.
Also I would suggest that a big ship like that needed rigorous stability features in the design, possibly with both transverse and longitudinal watertight bulkheads at levels close to and below the waterline to minimise the areas that could flood after a hull breach. Of course the watertight doors would need to be closed by default and the bother of restricted access handled.

You do the abandon drills FIRST you do not sail first and do them at your leisure. You do idiot guide demonstrations and they should be compulsory for all passengers; by idiot guide I mean 'this is a lifejacket' holding it up in front of everyone and 'this is how you put it on' demonstrating every solitary step the same way as aircrew do it. Language should be pretty much irrelevant. There should be people on board who speak the language of as many potential nationalities as possible, and escape signage should have every language or be universally understandable images.
No planning for events like these will ever be perfect and completely foolproof, but thus far it's pretty surprising just how few confirmed casualties and still missing there actually are. Common sense seems to have been what kept a hell of a lot of people alive.
As for everything else, like the 'captain was showing off' sensationalist reporting, should be treated with a vast pinch of salt. I know through personal experience that computerised navigation systems are not infallible and should be treated like any other automated system; trusted until you need to be totally certain. Cruising along coastal waters in an enormous cruise liner is one of those occasions where you do not trust the satnav.

Having recently been on a P+O cruise on board the Ventura we all had the safety drill briefing within 4 hours of boarding. Each group of cabins whether forward, midships or aft, are allocated a certain muster station to assemble at in an emergency. Also, crew members attend every stair well to direct the evacuation. The crew are constantly trained in emergency drill procedures throughout their contracts, for this very eventuality. The problem is that with the sheer size of the modern vessels - over 300 metres long & up to 19 decks high, it takes time to get back to your cabins & put on the floatation vests then get to your muster stations. Normal disembarking takes about an hour for around 2500 passengers from the various egress points.

Well if it does crash ( most likely it won't ) people jump, take life boats or sit on it and die. You know it doesn't take a few seconds to sink. It could take up to 10 min to an hour. Watch some Videos on youtube of a ship sinking. Heres a good one. -http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9BFux2AAMso
