yes sorry it will be obsolete the video plus signal uses the analogue signal so it will not work but you can buy a freeview recorder which are easy to use actually easier than video plus

Video Plus will disappear along with the analogue signal. Digital TV uses a different method to synchronise recorders. They send proper start and stop signals, rather like the system that Channel 4 pioneered about 15 years ago (nothing's truly new!).
Modern DVD recorders (except the cheap and nasty ones) can take advantage of these signals when you programme using their EPGs. It's a lot more accurate than Video Plus so you don't have to allow 5 minutes either side of the programme start and stop times.
