Need advice on training a Havanese...?
So I have a puppy who is about five and a half months old and he is driving me crazy. He has discovered he can jump up on my coffee table, he barks at everything, when I try to discipline him he thinks I am playing, house training is a disaster, and he bites all the time. What is the best way to train a Havanese? He is not like any dog I've ever had and I am at my wits end. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

The only discipline a dog understands, any breed of dog, any age or sex, is ignoring them. If a behaviour captures your attention then it is a behaviour that has been rewarded. If the dog jumps on the table pick it up. Do not make eye contact with it. Growl in a low guttural voice if you like..."No. Bad dawg" but nothing else.
Take it out of the room. Place it down. Say not another word. Leave it there, closing the door and making sure it cannot see you. Wait a few minutes, Open the door again. Also wordlessly. Let the dog come in. Do not pay it any attention, not even to chastise it until it is sitting obediently at your feet.
If it immediately jumps up on the table or jumps up at you again repeat the above procedure.
It will work with all bad behaviours. It will not take long to work either unless you are not utterly consistent with it.
No matter how cute or amusing, frightening or angering an incident may be, react in precisely the same manner.Do not yell. Do not laugh. Do not react in any way other than to remove the dog from your immediate presence and attention.
Dogs are not stupid and they are pack animals. All it wants to do is be with you. You yelling and smacking it may not be ideal company, but it's company. You ignoring it breaks its widdle canine heart and it will go out of its way to behave in the manner which gets it your attention..ie: well.
