I was taking Lexapro 20mg and my doctor changed it and put me on Efexor-xr (Venlafaxine) 75mg. He said before i can start taking the Efexor-xr i must stop taking the Lexparo for 3 days then start with the Efexor-xr, Why is it that i have to stop taking Lexapro for three days first????? Why cant i just stop one and start the other?????

Different medications have different chemical compositions. My wife is on Effexor. If she ever has to change or stop taking them, she has to be weened off them and will go ape s**t until the new tablets take effect. Some medications can also react with each other two. Just a heads up with the Effexor. Doesn't go to well with booze, cancels out the effects so just be careful how much you drink.
