....Nothing was ever said about what was thrown off the bridge.In the movie "Ode To Billy Joe" they used a symbol of coming of age.The movie showed a ragdoll being thrown or dropped from the bridge as a way to say stop being a child and be an adult.Billy Joe was in love with Bobbi Lee, but her young age she was not ready to commit, he committed suicide from the bridge.
