Speakers have stopped working on my laptop. Help!?

I have a Toshiba Satellite C650 - 1CP laptop on windows 7. Today, the sound has completely gone. I've checked that nothing is muted and the speakers in the bottom left hand bit of the screen say the sound is working. I've tried restarting it to no avail. I have installed a printer today but IDK if that is anything to do with it. It works if I plug headphones in though. Thanks in advance.

    go to control panel should be listed onstart menu or type sound in the startup menu search window

    and see if its been muted or deleted
