Period problems, girls please help?

I have 2 questions..

I started my period when I was 14, and now I'm almost 16. You're meant to get it about every 28 days, but I get mine every 2/3 months and I don't know why. Is that just because we're all different or is there some other reason?

And when I do come 'on', it's really really heavy. Like I have to use 2 pads over the top of eachother and I can't spend an hour at school before I have to go to the toilets and change my pad. It's really uncomfortable, and since I play a lot of sports, it really screws up when I can play and when I can't. I don't want to use tampons because they scare the crap out of me. My friend went to the doctors and went on the pill because she had really heavy periods too. The only problem is that I don't want to tell my mum about it because it's embarrassing and I never tell her anything, I didn't even tell her when I first came 'on'.

So would I be allowed to go to the doctors without her? And would they be allowed to prescribe me the pill if I need it? Baring in mind that I'm only 15, so I'm not an adult...? I live in England btw.

I really want help with this annoying and embarrassing problem, so I'd appreciate any answers! Please and thankyou!:)

Update:

I really hope you were kidding about that thing:/ but thanks anyway?

Some girls wonder if their periods are normal. No two girls' periods are exactly alike. Periods can last from 2 days to a week. Some girls have very heavy periods with monthly cramps, and others have much lighter periods after the first couple of days.

It also takes a while (usually 12 to 18 months) for a girl's period to become regular after her first period. You may get your first period and then not have another for a few months. As you get older, your cycle will become more regular — usually between 21 and 34 days in length.

The amount of blood you lose during your period can vary, too. It can seem like a lot, but typically it's only about 2 tablespoons. Call the doctor if you think that you are bleeding too much or you go 3 months without getting your period.

    In answer to your questions:

You can certainly see a doctor without your mother.

If the doctor decides that giving you the contraceptive pill is the best treatment for your condition, he will prescribe that for you.

Your doctor should be able to help with excess bleeding, talk it over with him/her.

Really, just tell your mom you need to go to the doctor to talk about your period. She can set up an appointment for you and she can drive you there, she doesn't have to go in with you. They will have to tell her you're on the pill because as a mother she has to know what you're putting in to your body. Only getting your period once every 2/3 months is not okay, you might not be eating enough. Heavy periods are normal, every girl is different when it comes to that.
