Gateway NV52 (MS2274) 2-3yr old laptop won't turn on?

It could be the motherboard but its not very likely. The motherboard is the toughest component of your laptop. It dies at the very end in most cases. I would say you have a bad operating system. My suggestion is to back up your files, reformat the hard drive, then recopy your backed up files. You can skip the damaged operating system and just access your files with a hard drive enclosure. I use the bt-300 from topmicrousa and it works wonders. All you do is connect the hard drive to the device and then the device via usb to another working laptop or computer and you copy and paste the files over.

I have a Gateway laptop model MS2274 purchased I think in 2009. It has worked fine for as long as I have had it, never had any problems starting up or doing anything really. It's always worked perfect until now. I can hear it actually start up and "run" sometimes, with both the power...

I don't want to be judgmental, but five hours a day on the computer for a 3 year old seems, well, excessive. If these are consecutive hours, then I wonder where you are during this time. I'd limit computer time to increments of a half-hour at a time, not more than 3 times a day. And hide the laptop in between those times. If she asks for it, ignore the question and suggest a different activity, like coloring, cutting up paper, playing with blocks, etc..... or something that perhaps engages the both of you. We play lots of card games in our house. And now that my kids are 5 and 3, they play with each other. I just have to do the shuffling, that's all.
