How to select inside a shape in Photoshop?

I want to select everything inside the black border around the alien. Is that possible?

    Pen tool and allot of patience.

    Or...you can use the wand to select the black

    and clean it up.

    1) use the oval marque to select the center of the

    black border.

    2) crop

    3) use the wand to select the black border and

    invert the selection. CMD or CTRL i

    gm.
