what could be causing my stretch marks?

I'm getting stretch marks radiating around my belly button. I'm not pregnant, and I'm not gaining pounds and if anything I'm loosing weight everywhere else. What can cause such an event?

Update:

the weight change is very slow right now. I did a few months ago have some sudden weight gain, but not enough to cause them and I'm getting back down slowly now.

    The changes in your skin even from losing weight can cause it.
