With rare exception, the GPU on laptops can't be replaced or upgraded. The GPU is soldered directly to the motherboard. Reading the specifications at http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/detail.page?Legacy... , the T41 does not seem to be one of the rare ones. It's native resolution is 1024x768, which was pretty common for the time.

The specifications seem to indicate that you can set the resolution higher that that, but what you will get is a 1024x768 panning view of the larger resolution. That is, you will only see a 1024x768 pixel section of something like 1600x1200 pixels total. The specs list all the resolutions you can use.

You could always hook an external monitor to the laptop that has a higher resolution (and use both screens), but that does defeat the whole portable aspect of having a laptop. The supported resolutions for external monitors is listed on the specs as well.

Not a good idea they make it very hard to upgrade. Best to buy a laptop with one already in.
